Saltmarsh Hosts 17th Annual Community BankTalk Event

8/31/2022 - By Nancy Patton

For the past 17 years, the Saltmarsh Bank Advisors have brought hundreds of financial institution professionals together for community banking events, BankTalk, to learn about advancements in the industry, regulatory updates and much more. With the turn to virtual after 2020, the team hosted the last three annual events virtually – but that didn’t stop them from getting an insightful lineup of speakers and content!

BankTalk 2022 kicked off with an Executive Forum that had an emphasis on economics and included presentations from Raymond James Financial, Inc. regarding interest rates and balance sheet management, and a dive into a current economic outlook with Lindsey M. Piegza, Ph.D. from Stifel, Nicolaus & Company, Incorporated. The day ended with a sit-down interview with the Tennessee Department of Financial Institutions Commissioner, Greg Gonzales, to talk about all things banking and get a regulatory perspective on hot topics and trends within the banking industry.

The Technology Funnel on the second day focused on the future of banking and started with an insightful presentation on harnessing the power of digital in commercial banking with Ryan Canin, CEO and co-founder of DocFox, Inc. Following that, our audience got a chance to explore the metaverse with Saltmarsh’s own IT experts, Stephen Reyes, CISA, CISSP and Jason Keith, CIA, CISA. The day ended with a frequent BankTalk speaker, Andrew Sekela from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, sharing tips on how to identify one of the greatest threats to businesses - economic espionage.

On the final day of BankTalk 2022, the Compliance Funnel, explored a broad range of topics, including a regulatory compliance update from Saltmarsh Senior Manager, Sarah Oliver, CRCM, and a BSA masterclass with a constant BankTalk speaker, Jonathan Turner, CFE, from ZOLL Medical Corporation. The annual event was capped off with a one-on-one discussion on regulatory risks with Deputy Assistant Director for Originations for the CFPB, Calvin Hagins, and Saltmarsh’s Financial Institutions Advisory Group practice leader, Kristen Stogniew, Esq., CFE.

Thank you to all our attendees and speakers for making this year’s event a success – it will be hard to top it next year!
