Investment Management & Financial PlanningLow-cost, tax-efficient fiduciaries with integrity

In 1995, Saltmarsh, Cleaveland & Gund added Saltmarsh Financial Advisors, LLC to the firm’s suite of service. This addition enables the Firm to provide conflict-free financial planning and investment management services to our clients.

Saltmarsh Financial Advisors has decades of combined experience in financial planning, investment management, tax and estate planning. Our expertise makes us uniquely qualified to help you navigate through a lifetime of financial decisions. Our experience and diligent portfolio monitoring process gives you the freedom to focus on what matters most to you.

Saltmarsh Financial Advisors partners with one of the leading fund families in the world to provide low-cost wealth management solutions to our clients.

Our Investment Philosophy

Saltmarsh Financial Advisors’ investment philosophy is based on decades of Nobel Prize recognized academic research regarding capital markets and the science of investing. Rather than chasing returns through stock picking and market timing, we use a diversification technique called ‘asset class investing’ to customize your portfolio based on your specific goals, objectives and risk tolerances. The blended performance of asset class investing can help reduce downside risk of over-exposure to any one asset class, industry or individual stock or bond.

Saltmarsh Financial Advisors has access to institutional class mutual funds with some of the lowest internal expense ratios in the industry. The effective management of lower costs accrues directly to your investment returns. Our goal is to deliver the performance of capital markets and enhanced returns through state-of-the-art portfolio design, trading practices and reduced fees.

We Focus On What Matters

Your priorities are our primary focus. Our mission is to provide a successful investment experience and the peace of mind that comes with proper planning and consistent communication. We help you make critical decisions by guiding you to the best course of action – from calculating your specific risk-reward ratio to knowing when to draw for retirement or fund large expenditures. Our recommendations are customized with the consideration of tax optimization strategies.

Fee-Only Fiduciary Vs. Broker

In financial services there are two regulatory standards that advisors are held to – the Fiduciary Standard and the Suitability Standard.

As Registered Investment Advisors, Saltmarsh Financial Advisors is governed by the Fiduciary Standard which means we have a legal obligation to put our client’s best interest ahead of our own. We do not sell products or receive compensation from the mutual funds we recommend. Our clients appreciate the value of receiving investment advice through fee-only, independent advisors with solid technical skills.

Conversely, brokers are held to the Suitability Standard, which simply requires the broker to sell investments they believe are suitable for their clients, not necessarily what is best for the client. Brokers are essentially salespeople who are compensated by commissions or a production-based bonus. This may cause a conflict of interest because the products and mutual funds that are best for the advisor may have higher costs for the investor.

To understand if your best interests are a top priority for your financial professional, ask if they are regulated under the Fiduciary or Suitability Standard.
