CMS Stakeholder Call Held on March 31, 2020

Some key points covered in the call include the following:

  • Hospital without Walls Strategy - flexibility to increase hospital capacity to meet influx of patients
  • Expanded Coverage for Ambulance - Medicare will cover transportation between various sites
  • Efforts to Facilitate Testing - Medicare will pay labs to collect samples in patient homes and nursing homes
  • Helping Hospitals Increase Staffing - Removing barriers to hiring physicians, nurses, and other clinicians
  • “Dramatic” Expansion of Telehealth - Medicare will pay physicians for phone calls with patients, eliminating the need for face-to-face visits
  • Temporary Relief from Audits and Various Deadlines - Extending a variety of deadlines and suspending documentation requests
  • Expanded Availability of Advance Payments - Medicare providers can obtain payment in advance to help address cash flow problems
