How to Improve Your Quality Component Scoring

9/6/2018 - By Claudia Reingruber, CPA

Did you know...

  • The new Florida Medicaid rates for SNFs effective October 1, 2018, have been published
  • Included in the rate is data on the new Quality Component for each SNF
  • Up to 40 total Quality Points were available
  • For SNFs with 10.5 points or more, each point equates to approximately $1.23 per day!
  • Earning 40 Quality Points would have generated $49.20 per day!
  • But sadly, nearly half of Florida SNFs earned 15 points or less

Do you know...

  • How many Quality Points and dollars your SNF will get?
  • Where you rank in the number of Quality Points related to other Florida SNFs?

Make sure that you are taking steps to maximize your Quality Points and the Quality-based component of your Medicaid rate!

  • Quality Points are awarded based on scoring in twelve areas falling into four general categories:
    • Process Measures
      • Flu Vaccinations
      • Anti-psychotic Usage
      • Restraint Usage
    • Outcome Measures
      • Urinary Tract Infections
      • Pressure Ulcers
      • Falls
      • Incontinence
      • Decline in ADL's
    • Structural Measures
      • Direct Care staffing
      • Social Work and Activity staffing
    • Credentialing
      • CMS 5-star ratings
      • Florida Gold Seal, Joint Commission Accreditation, or AHCA National Quality Awards
  • Almost all providers have some opportunity to address the Process and Outcome Measurements to improve the Quality Component score
