2019 Tax Internship - Pensacola, FL

Currently, we are seeking an Intern for our tax practice.  This person would work out of our Pensacola office and will have client contact, therefore will be expected to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

 

EXPECTATIONS

  • You will get involved in real work for clients and work alongside specialists in your chosen business area
  • You will have a combination of assigned and project work to keep you busy throughout the internship
  • You may receive an eclectic combination of work that could include tax, bookkeeping and audit
  • Samples of this type of work may include assisting with monthly accounting work for a bookkeeping client, Excel projects, create confirmation letters or planning documents, update engagement letters, and pulling work from our tax folders to start preparing returns
  • There will an opportunity for you to experience how business development works and meet clients though networking events and other activities

TRAINING

  • Day 1 will consist of New Hire Orientation which will include paperwork from HR and going out to lunch
  • Your 1st week will involve training on software and processes with your assigned Peer and other key individuals within the firm
  • Your assigned Peer will facilitate training and be your go-to person regarding firm procedures and any question you may have throughout your internship
  • Once a week you will meet with different practice line representatives to gain exposure to the firm’s work and opportunities available in the profession  

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Pursuing a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in accounting courses
  • Must be within 1-2 years of graduation with your 150 hours or a recent accounting graduate 
  • During your internship, you will be expected to talk to and meet clients as part of your learning experience
  • We want to see that you're motivated and trying to make the most of the experience, so you should be proactive and looking for opportunities, rather than waiting for them to come to you
  • That doesn't mean that you must do everything yourself - it means that you should fully use the resources we make available to you, ask questions, and ask for help if you need it
  • There are lots of terms and jargon to learn, so if something goes over your head or doesn't make sense, people will always be more than happy to answer your questions – but bring your notebook and pen with you to jot down the answers!
  • At the end of your internship we will have an exit interview where we will give you constructive feedback on your internship as well as ask you for feedback to continue improving our internship experience
  • Bring a patient, positive attitude with you every day

Administrative Assistant - Pensacola, FL

Qualifications:

  • Processes tax returns according to established firm procedures, often under tax deadlines.
  • Maintain shareholder client lists and monitor for deadlines.
  • Maintain internal tracking of tax returns in the office.
  • Prepares client bills for assigned shareholders/managers.
  • Answers telephones and answers routine questions or route calls to appropriate staff members.
  • Schedules appointments for assigned shareholders/managers.
  • Proofreads and corrects correspondence for grammar, punctuation, spelling, and addition, in order to produce error-free work.
  • Assembles manuals, seminar materials and other materials.
  • Handles copying and scanning projects.
  • Makes travel arrangements.
  • Arranges for meetings and conferences and may take notes.
  • Scans documents into electronic files.
  • Relieves front desk receptionist when needed.   

 Requirements:

  • Requires graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • One year of general clerical experience.
  • Experienced in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of modern office methods and procedures in a paperless environment.
  • Correct business English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Ability to perform secretarial and clerical duties with speed and accuracy without immediate and constant supervision.
  • Strong verbal, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Executes assignments of a confidential nature; requires ability to keep matters confidential.
  • Ability to operate copier/scanner/fax, computer, printer, and multi-line phone system.
  • May be required to act as a Notary Public.Must be able to multi-task effectively

Heavy overtime hours may be required during tax deadlines.  Some weeks may be 60+ hours, including Saturdays, for two months prior to April 15th, along with the September 15th and October 15th extension deadlines.

Due to unique nature of this business, this job has an annual cyclical calendar of responsibilities.  Therefore, candidate should be looking for long-term employment in order to fulfull all requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation, review and analysis of Medicaid and/or Medicare cost reports for skilled nursing facilities, home health agencies, hospices, and home offices
  • Assistance with Medicaid cost report audits, including analysis of proposed adjustments, identifying support for disputed items, participating in exit conferences, and preparing for any necessary appeals
  • Review and analysis of client financial data with an eye towards assisting clients with accounting or operational practices, and the optimization of reimbursement
  • Applying reimbursement rules and regulations to respond to questions or cost accounting issues
  • Working with our interdisciplinary team of healthcare specialists on a variety of consulting projects, including compliance assessments, due diligence activities, and litigation support
  • Participating in practice development activities, including strengthening client relationships, and networking in trade groups and through social media

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required
  • CPA or CPA eligibility preferred
  • 1 to 5 years in healthcare accounting, including Medicaid and/or Medicare cost reporting and accounting
  • Strong computer and technical skills, including proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of products (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Experienced in healthcare accounting systems, electronic medical records systems, and/or healthcare reporting and billing systems
  • Desire to expand healthcare regulatory skills through directed research and personal initiative
  • Self-starter, with an ability to follow directions and work independently to complete assignments

Responsibilities

  • Review and analysis of Medicaid and/or Medicare cost reports with an eye toward recognizing opportunities for improvement
  • Representing clients in Medicaid cost report audits, including overseeing analysis of proposed adjustments, identifying rationales and accumulating documentation to dispute unfavorable items, participating in exit conferences and negotiating with auditors, and preparing for any necessary appeals
  • Review and analysis of client financial data and cost accounting practices, with an eye toward refining accounting and operational practices, and the optimization of reimbursement
  • Staying abreast of changing reimbursement rules and industry trends to work with our clients develop and operationalize strategies to enable them to adapt and succeed
  • Serve as project manager and interdisciplinary team leader on varied consulting projects, including compliance assessments or investigations, due diligence activities, litigation support, and strategic planning initiatives
  • Driving business development activities, through strengthening client relationships, networking with industry trade groups and healthcare attorneys, presenting seminars and speaking engagements, and the effective use of LinkedIn and other social media

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required
  • CPA or CPA eligibility, or Certification in Healthcare Compliance preferred
  • Supervisory experience required
  • At least 10 years in healthcare and reimbursement accounting, including Medicaid and/or Medicare cost reporting, budgeting, appeals, and strategic planning initiatives
  • In-depth knowledge of post-acute Medicare coverage guidelines and reimbursement methodologies, Medicaid payment systems, and related operational/accounting practices
  • Experience with managing an interdisciplinary team, with a proven track record of consistently planning and completing complex engagements or projects within deadlines, while assuming responsibility and accountability for the work of those supervised
  • Experience in project management and medical record audits or investigations
  • Excellent computer and technical skills, including proficiency with financial accounting systems, electronic medical records systems, cost report software, and the Microsoft Office suite of products (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Experienced in healthcare accounting systems, electronic medical records systems, and/or healthcare reporting and billing systems
  • Desire to expand healthcare regulatory skills through independent research and personal initiative
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and written and oral communication skills
