2020 Internship - Pensacola & Tampa, FL

Currently, we are seeking qualified students for an Internship for our tax and audit practices in Pensacola and Tampa, FL.   

EXPECTATIONS

  • You will get involved in real work for clients and work alongside specialists in your chosen business area
  • You will have a combination of assigned and project work to keep you busy throughout the internship
  • You may receive an eclectic combination of work that could include tax, bookkeeping and audit
  • Samples of this type of work may include assisting with monthly accounting work for a bookkeeping client, Excel projects, create confirmation letters or planning documents, update engagement letters, and pulling work from our tax folders to start preparing returns, participate on audit engagements, complete and track audit workpapers
  • There will an opportunity for you to experience how business development works and meet clients though networking events and other activities

TRAINING

  • Day 1 will consist of New Hire Orientation which will include paperwork from HR and going out to lunch
  • Your 1st week will involve training on software and processes with your assigned Peer and other key individuals within the firm
  • Your assigned Peer will facilitate training and be your go-to person regarding firm procedures and any question you may have throughout your internship
  • Once a week you will meet with different practice line representatives to gain exposure to the firm’s work and opportunities available in the profession  

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Pursuing a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in accounting courses
  • Must be within 1-2 years of graduation with your 150 hours or a recent accounting graduate 
  • During your internship, you will be expected to talk to and meet clients as part of your learning experience
  • We want to see that you're motivated and trying to make the most of the experience, so you should be proactive and looking for opportunities, rather than waiting for them to come to you
  • That doesn't mean that you must do everything yourself - it means that you should fully use the resources we make available to you, ask questions, and ask for help if you need it
  • There are lots of terms and jargon to learn, so if something goes over your head or doesn't make sense, people will always be more than happy to answer your questions – but bring your notebook and pen with you to jot down the answers!
  • At the end of your internship we will have an exit interview where we will give you constructive feedback on your internship as well as ask you for feedback to continue improving our internship experience

Beacon - Saltmarsh's Summer Leadership Program - Pensacola and Tampa, FL

ATTENTION ACCOUNTING STUDENTS!

Saltmarsh is proud to announce the dates for our 2020 Summer Leadership Program. 

 

Beacon is a 2-day exclusive leadership program held on May 27 & 28 in Pensacola, Florida and June 2 & 3 in Tampa, FL.  The mission of the Beacon program is to contribute to your success and smooth your transition from the classroom to the office. 

 

Eligible students have about 2 years remaining in their education, have declared Accounting as their major and have an overall GPA of at least 3.0. 

 

This dynamic program pairs fundamental leadership training with team building and out-of-office activities to offer a 360-degree view of what it's like to be a part of the Saltmarsh team.  Our professionals will shed light on the key skills and principles that will help you navigate your career and share why they are passionate about their work.  

 

There will be:

  • Professional Development with workshops, interactive panels, and leadership course facilitated by our best.  We will equip you with a comprehensive understanding of the industry and workplace dynamics.
  • Team Building + Exposure where you will need more than technical know-how to be successful, which is why we have incorporated team building and other activities to help you meet our team and learn from their experiences.
  • Explore the Local Area which is home to world famous beaches and a vibrant downtown that is rich historic significance.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 1-3 years' minimum tax experience with a large local, regional or national public accounting firm
  • Relevant public account experience with clients in varied industries
  • Effective project management skills and ability to manage multiple engagements simultaneously
  • Interest in leading teams and training newer associates
  • Aptitude for effectively networking and increasing knowledge base of services offered
  • Must be analytical with the ability to see the big picture
  • Strong computer skills (ProSystem, Excel, Outlook)
  • CPA or CPA eligible

Accounting Specialist - Tampa, FL

Currently, we are seeking a strong Accounting Specialist who wants to join a firm that fosters both personal and professional development and supports the drive for advancement.  This person would work out of our Tampa office. This position will have direct client contact, therefore will be expected to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of 3 year's accounting/bookkeeping experience; preferably with a large local, regional or national public accounting firm and/or an Associate's Degree in Accounting
  • Prepare various reconciliation work for bank and credit card accounts
  • Verify the accuracy of invoices and other accounting documents
  • update and maintain accounting journals and ledgers
  • Prepare detailed business transactions including disbursements, expense vouchers, receipts, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and invoicing 
  • Assist with the reconciliation of other management reports, investigate questionable data, key in payroll, and recommend actions to resolve discrepancies, when needed 
  • Must be analytical with the ability to see the big picture
  • Attention to detail, organization, verbal and written communication skills, required
  • Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Quickbooks, Quickbooks Online - a plus, ProSystem - a plus)
