2016 Women in Leadership Conference

3/7/2016 - By Abbey Lelina

Last Friday, our firm had the opportunity to attend the Women in Leadership Conference, hosted by the College of Business Executive Mentor Program at the University of West Florida. The conference was created to bring women together to learn about empowerment, professional development and shaping the future of Pensacola through working together.

Of the successful women that shared life stories and valuable insight at this event, Christina Doss of Saltmarsh Financial Advisors participated as a panelist.

We started off the conference with Carol Carlan of the Sacred Heart Foundation and she spoke about Mentorship Experiences that Make the Difference. She shared that you can create your definition of success with the help of a mentor that can inspire, challenge and support your vision and goals. Since she has a mentor and currently mentors multiple people, she shared the exponential benefits of sitting on both sides.

The two panels were themed around “mentorship experiences that make a difference” and “juggling while climbing a mountain.” These are two topics that all professionals can relate to and it was refreshing to receive insight from professionals that make it look easy!

We ended the conference with Dr. Katrice Albert of the University of Minnesota. As the Vice President of the Office for Equity and Diversity, her “Power and Pearls” presentation was centered on her personal “Pearl Gamechangers” that consist of tips that she uses to become an effective leader.

Each of the sessions covered a large spectrum of topics, but each topic expressed that having a mentor is more than a working relationship. It is a connection that can help boost your personal and professional growth. Also, there are endless benefits to becoming a mentor, because your insight may be the catalyst for change in someone’s life.
