Beacon: Summer Leadership ProgramMay 29th - 30th, 2019

6/18/2019 - By Nancy Patton

On May 29th, Saltmarsh hosted 11 accounting students from various universities in the southeast for our Beacon Summer Leadership Program. The students joined us at the Pensacola office to take part in this 2-day event with the goal to leave with the skills to navigate life after college in the professional workplace.

Day 1 kicked off with a tour of our office along with open conversations on how firm’s make money and how networking isn’t as scary as it seems. The students spent most of the day shadowing our staff members in the tax, audit, and consulting services to see day-to-day operations.

Day 2 began with a Myers-Briggs Type Indicator evaluation where the students uncovered which forms of communication works best with the different types of personalities they will encounter in the workplace. The students also had the pleasure of speaking with a group of shareholders where they discussed Saltmarsh’s various industry practices. Guest speakers from DeLuna Winery, Bay Wood Products, Inc., and AppRiver joined us to share tips and tricks on being a successful young professional in their community.

All the sessions the students participated in led up to a friendly game of trivia where the students tested their knowledge of the accounting world! Beacon concluded with a tailgate-themed lunch with our Pensacola staff members where the students showed off their networking skills.

“Beacon is a great learning program that allows students to get a feel for our firm and to leave with some knowledge of what the transition after school will look like for them,” said Beacon Director, Mel Kleinert.

We'd like to thank the students, guest speakers, and staff members for participating in this year's Summer Leadership Program and making it the best one yet!
