On Wednesday, May 11th, Saltmarsh, Cleaveland & Gund hosted the Pensacola Business Leaders Funnel at Skopelos at New World. More than 100 business owners and community leaders gathered to hear subject-matter experts weigh in on topics such as the 2016 presidential election, healthcare reform and the ever-changing role of cyber security.

The event’s keynote speaker was Dr. Susan MacManus of University of South Florida. During her presentation, Dr. MacManus provided an overview of Florida’s election landscape and in-depth analysis of the 2016 presidential candidates. As Florida’s most-quoted political scientist and a regular guest of the Republican and Democratic National Conventions, she provided important data about our nation’s voters and the 2016 presidential campaign at a non-partisan capacity. We also had the opportunity to host Jason Altmire of Florida Blue. He is a former United States Congressman and currently serves as the Senior Vice President of Public Policy, Government and Community Affairs for Florida Blue. He discussed the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and the implications of healthcare reform as it relates to the upcoming election.

This event also welcomed Chris Griggs, the Chief Information Officer for the Florida Highway Patrol and the CEO and founder of Aegis Clearance to speak about the growing concerns of cyber security. He discussed several protection methods that individuals and businesses should consider to keep their information safe. He concluded with an overview of initiatives in place by the current administration and the cyber-related standing of each of the presidential candidate.
